~keeping faith & family close to heart in a modern world~

praying in old catholic church

“As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest to settle her young, my home is by Your altars, LORD of hosts, my king and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They never cease to praise You.

Blessed the man who finds refuge in you, in their hearts are pilgrim roads. As they pass through the Baca valley, they find spring water to drink. The early rain covers it with blessings. They will go from strength to strength and see the God of gods on Zion.

LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; listen, God of Jacob. For a sun and shield is the LORD God, bestowing all grace and glory. The LORD withholds no good thing from those who walk without reproach.”

To My Fellow Mama Shepherds:

Your God-given vocation of motherhood is the very thing of miracles. Do not let the world let you forget how important you are in His mission.

I know… we’re exhausted, hangry, over-stimulated & pulled in every direction simultaneously each mday.

<<Slow down, mama.>>

While you’re picking up the living room and returning the endless supply of hot wheels and dinosaurs back to their storage-container homes,

<<pause, just a couple of seconds,>>

to take in the fine strands of strawberry blonde hair that are growing faster and lighter now on the head of your 5-month-old little Sugar who is valiantly practicing her rollover skills on the living room floor.

<<REST in this moment you are in,>>

sitting next to your sugar-high toddler on the couch asking you to help him skip to the next video on YouTube for what seems like the hundredth time because his attention span has dwindled down to nothing, and he doesn’t want you to forget he’s still in the room as you spend a half hour changing his little sis’ diaper & bottle feeding her…

I can guarantee that the goofy happy smile that appears on your toddler’s face right after you sneak-attack him with an unexpected kiss on the cheek because you most definitely did not forget he was in the room… that genuine sweet smile generated by your 150% total BOY toddler when you take the time to “get back to simple” with him, that is not only True Love, that is a moment you may not get again.

The Lord chose YOU for this child. REST just a little while in each moment you have in the company of your babies.

“We want so much to give our lives to the “bigger” cause. We want to invest our lives for what is important. And yet, is there anything more important than the building of a righteous soul?”

“These are the sacrifices of our love, the moment-by-moment giving up of ourselves, the constant year-in, year-out practice of worship as we serve those in our home in order to please His heart. It is for Him, for His Kingdon that we serve with willing, generous, lifegiving hearts, building His Kingdom one heart and one sacrifice at a time.”

“The laying down of our lives is not just about moving to the most impoverished country or preaching to thousands, but loving the one right in front of us: the child who would long to have our comforting touch and gentle voice speaking lifegiving words, that he may imagine the voice and touch of God.”

“Thank you for loving your children well today. It is the very best way to show the world TRUE LOVE.”
