~keeping faith & family close to heart in a modern world~

praying in old catholic church

“As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest to settle her young, my home is by Your altars, LORD of hosts, my king and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They never cease to praise You.

Blessed the man who finds refuge in you, in their hearts are pilgrim roads. As they pass through the Baca valley, they find spring water to drink. The early rain covers it with blessings. They will go from strength to strength and see the God of gods on Zion.

LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; listen, God of Jacob. For a sun and shield is the LORD God, bestowing all grace and glory. The LORD withholds no good thing from those who walk without reproach.”

Fr. Mike Schmitz: Homily for the LOST

statue of jesus christ on mount in evening

Father Mike Schmitz puts out Sunday homilies on Apple Podcasts, among other platforms I’m sure. You may know him for his podcast series “Bible in a Year” and now has a newer series that works through the Catechism in a year. I’m extra excited to get started on the Catechism series!

I have a short prayer then on to a few simple notes from Fr.

Prayer to our Lady of Mount Carmel –
Most blessed and Immaculate Virgin, ornament and splendor of Mount Carmel, you who regards with particular goodness those who wear your scapular*, graciously look upon me also, and cover me with the mantle of your maternal protections. Fortify my weakness with your strength, illuminate the darkness of my mind with your wisdom, increase Faith, Hope & Charity within me, adorn my soul with such graces and virtues that it may be always precious to you and your Divine Son; assist me in life, console me at the hour of death with your most loving presence and present me to the most regal Trinity as your son and devout servant, to eternally praise and bless you in heaven. Amen.
Pray 2 Hail Marys & 1 Glory Be.

*** A Carmelite scapular isย a piece of cloth worn over the shoulders as a sign of love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.ย It is a reduced form of the Carmelite habit, which originally consisted of a brown tunic, scapular, hood, and mantle.ย The scapular is a sacramental object of Marian piety that symbolizes ‘putting on Christ’ and entrusting oneself to Mary’s protection.ย It is highly indulgenced by the Church and ranks among the first of Marian devotions. ***

{Action Kills} Anxiety:

โ€ข over-estimation of the DANGER โš ๏ธ

โ€ข under-estimation of our ability to COPE ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ with an outcome

Anxiety = futurefocused

<<< BUT >>>

Gratitude = present-focused

Do not listen to the โ€œwhat ifsโ€.

((as if hearing the answer accomplishes anything more for your circumstance))

Choose instead to focus on โ€œwhat isโ€ present already.

Grow a grateful mindset.
โ€ฆ

Intentionally shift everyday thoughts

from anxiety-centered to GRATITUDE-CENTERED.

โ€œIn all things,

with prayer & thanksgiving,

make your requests known to God.โ€

~ St. Paul ๐Ÿค

God knows your โ™ฅ๏ธ better than you know it.
God loves you bigger & better than you love yourself.

And in these two things,

I know that I can trust Him.
