While listening to my daily dose of conservative-focused podcasts, I was introduced to a fella named Trent Horn (Ben Shapiro’s show link). Never heard of this guy before, but he rallies alongside pro-life activists to protect the lives of the unborn, so he’s got a new friend in me!
The below video is currently on YouTube, posted earlier this year from one of Trent’s talks at a pro-life seminar. I listened to the whole talk and I hope you will do the same. The little tidbits I laid out and (loosely) quoted below are his words/ideas taken from the video.
Baby Cam just being a baby <3
{{ Personhood is based on what we are, not what we can do }}
This is why we all have equal rights as human beings.
>> One could argue that the ability to think rationally makes you a person.
Well, no infant could pass that test… perhaps a 3 yr-old would be considered capable of rational thoughts? So toddlers aged 0-3: these little bundles of joy wouldn’t be considered “people” under this logic.
>> Some like to argue that abortion should be legal due to financial insecurity – that is, allowing the intentional and elective killing of a healthy human baby growing in the womb because of the selfish desire to have more money to spend on self.
It’s OKAY to agree that it would be tough being in a situation where you feel as if you don’t have enough money to raise a child and care for them based on the “financial standard” you had imagined. And even more so, if the mother was already having difficulty providing enough food to eat for her kiddos due to her lack of funds.
~ The money is NOT the real issue – get back to who the unborn child is...
Imagine that same mother has three children and is struggling financially.
By the way, MOST of US are struggling right now – Not only is it more costly raising a family presently, but it’s increasingly difficult to give those kiddos the loving attention they are owed due to all the available and unnecessary distractions we tend to let infiltrate our everyday.
Ok, back to the mama: Her 2yr-old toddler is generating the most expense when compared to her 7yr-old and 2-month-old baby. Should this mom be allowed to kill her 2-yr-old toddler simply because she feels impoverished?
Why can’t she kill the 2yr old? The child is creating financial difficulties for her.
Ahhh – right, we don’t kill children (or other humans in general) because killing is morally wrong. OK, so fighting to keep abortion legal is not really about poverty… we wouldn’t kill a 2yr old in poverty.
Crimes against children and the elderly are viewed more harshly than crimes against the general adult population – both are very helpless and much more dependent on others than the typical adult in between.
From this viewpoint, the unborn actually need the MOST care and protection of ALL human life.
Definition of fetus: a member of the human species from the 8th week of life until birth.
Is a fetus not fully human??
What makes us fully human?
What is A PERSON?
NET: nutrition, environment, and time
((when all three are present, it (the cell) can develop into a mature human))
For example, skin cells may be living but are not whole and will never mature to a human being on their own.
The unborn are alive, human, & whole organisms.
>>> a live human and whole organism is a definition that applies to any human from conception onwards >>>
<<< growing by cellular reproduction >>>
<<< has human DNA and human parents >>>
If they (babies growing in the womb) weren’t alive, we wouldn’t need abortion (the very act of intentionally ending that human life growing in the womb).
Differences between us and the unborn (but also morally irrelevant): “S.L.E.D.”
~ size
~ level of development
~ environment
~ degree of dependency
The Bible says it’s wrong to kill human beings >>> humans are valuable.
Science tells me abortion is the killing of a human being >>> that is wrong.
