~keeping faith & family close to heart in a modern world~

praying in old catholic church

“As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest to settle her young, my home is by Your altars, LORD of hosts, my king and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They never cease to praise You.

Blessed the man who finds refuge in you, in their hearts are pilgrim roads. As they pass through the Baca valley, they find spring water to drink. The early rain covers it with blessings. They will go from strength to strength and see the God of gods on Zion.

LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; listen, God of Jacob. For a sun and shield is the LORD God, bestowing all grace and glory. The LORD withholds no good thing from those who walk without reproach.”

Take Courage, My Babies

“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7 NABRE

Pray with your babies at bedtime, snuggle with them on the couch, let them see how to REST in the Lord not only when they need it, but every day and as much as possible. <3

I went back to work full-time this week – it is harder than the first time. My family was barely able to scrape by for the whole 12 weeks I was off, but we were able to make it work during that time on my half pay for the first 8 weeks and my hard-working husband hustling over time. I am an able-bodied woman but dang, I really miss getting to spend my days with the kiddos. There’s just not enough time in the day now to give these babies my whole heart, although I try (you know that feeling, mama). Wake up in the morning, rush everyone to get ready just so we can all separate for the next 10 hours and hope we’re all in a good mood for the last 2 hours I get to spend with my family before it’s bedtime. Barely making it with two incomes is the way of the world now… but I hate it. Mamas need more time with their babies to raise them up with family values and priorities in mind. This is quite a jump here but – has our country really become that engrossed in material gains that having both parents at work all day and NOT raising their own children is clearly justified??

Looking back 5 years ago, I didn’t even know how to pray let alone what to pray about.. now, I make it a point to pray with my toddler at bedtime because I want to show him how to be humble by thanking the Lord for the very food and water that was provided for my family that day. We start every nightly prayer by thanking God for our food, water, shelter, clothing and warm beds He has provided us. Mac even anticipates the end of prayers and yells out, “amen!”. If my two yr old can properly use the word Amen, anyone can.

If you don’t pray with your babies, please start today. Let them see your continued faith and help guide them on their journey.
